BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Table clock; c. 1860.
Gilded bronze.
It has silk thread suspension.
Preserves pendulum and key.
It has Repainting on the dial and missing the machinery cover.
Signed Samuel Martí.
Measurements: 39 x 23 x 14 cm.
Table clock made entirely in gilded bronze. The piece that presents a clearly sculptural conception is defined by a round stepped base that gives way to the representation of a large fish aesthetically inspired by classical models and on it a little love that plays the harp. Resting on the tail of the clock is the gold-colored dial with black Roman numerals and Breguet-style hands.
Nineteenth century bronze table clocks were key pieces in interior decoration and design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the time. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
