BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Clock; France, third quarter of the nineteenth century.
Gilt bronze, white marble and enameled porcelain.
It has Brocot suspension.

Signed Bouron and Dalvergue bronze manufacturer.
Measurements: 55,5 x 43 x 17 cm.
Table clock of sculptural conception that sits on four ball legs chamfered, richly ornamented. The legs made of bronze give way to the marble base that presents a rectangular dial with a forward profile in the central area. Subsequently, the trapezoidal body is also made of white marble, although on top of it there is a bronze structure with vegetal and geometric motifs. The base that is of stepped character possesses in the inferior zone two bronze amorcillos in round bulk that flank the dial of the clock. This one that is arranged in a higher plane with respect to the figures has a great ornamentation in gilded bronze, leaning on a great garland in the inferior zone and finished off in the superior zone with a vase adorned with a bouquet of flowers.
Nineteenth century bronze table clocks were key pieces in decoration and interior design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the time. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
