BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Clock; France, late nineteenth century.
Gilded bronze and enameled porcelain.
It has Brocot suspension.
Preserves pendulum and key.
Signed Victor Pallart (dial); Pallart Rodier and Mari Pons (machinery).
Measurements: 51 x 65,5 x 20 cm.
French table clock made of bronze and white marble. The piece is supported on gilded legs in the shape of a chamfered ball and incised decoration, which were common in the style of the time. The marble base has a rectangular structure with the lateral profiles recessed, and the central area forward, so as to create a play of volumes. A strip of gilded bronze gives way to the body also of marble, which retains the same structure as the base, although in this case the ornamentation is greater. With a vegetal pattern that combines geometric elements made in bronze are superimposed on the body, and finish off the central area. On the body is the watch case designed with a white dial with Roman numerals in black and Breguet style hands. The dial is integrated into a structure of architectural inspiration that ends in the form of a large classic cup that highlights the fine work of the birds that flank it. On this structure rests on each side the female figure of a half-naked muse.
Nineteenth century bronze table clocks were key pieces in interior decoration and design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the time. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
