BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Clock with Louis XVI style harness; France, c. 1900.
Gilt bronze, enameled porcelain and partially gilded.
It has Brocot suspension.
Preserves pendulum and key.
Signed Japy Fréres.
Measurements: 61.5 x 53 x 19.5 cm (clock); 65.5 x 27 x 25.5 cm (garnish).
Garrison formed by a clock and two six-light candlesticks in bronze and enameled porcelain. This French table clock in Louis XVI style combines gilt bronze with painted porcelain details, a typical feature of the decorative luxury clocks of the 18th century. The clock's structure features a rectangular base with ornate legs, all in gilt bronze, worked with floral details and neoclassical elements. The base includes several porcelain plates with painted scenes, depicting cherubs in a pastoral setting, framed by gilt details.
In the center, the clock face is surrounded by detailed ornamentation, with Roman numerals in light blue on a white and gold background. The dial itself features a painted scene with cherubs, reflecting the romanticism and neoclassical aesthetic of the Louis XVI era. Flanking the clock, two porcelain painted portraits depict female figures of the period, probably aristocrats or symbolic characters.
The top of the clock is crowned by a decorative porcelain vessel with a pastoral scene, framed by scroll and leaf-shaped handles in bronze, adding a touch of elegance and majesty to the ensemble. This clock is a sample of the refinement and detailed craftsmanship characteristic of decorative objects in the Louis XV style.
