DESCRIPTION

Restoration Clock. France, c. 1830
Gilt bronze, patinated bronze and "verde antico" marble.
With pendulum suspension on silk thread.

Measurements: 80 x 51 x 23 cm.

Sculptural clock made of patinated bronze with gilded dial. Raised on a base we can appreciate the figure of Hercules with the skin of the lion of Nemea on his torso. This rests on a stump that serves to accommodate the clock face with Roman numerals in black and Breguet hands.

Bronze table clocks were key pieces in decoration and interior design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the time. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
