BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Morez wall clock with three bells. Switzerland, XIX century.
Walnut wood.
With hand painted medallion on the bottom.
It shows marks of use and wear.
It needs to be reworked and restored.
Measurements: 235 x 45 x 25 cm.
Morez wall clock with lentil pendulum. In the upper case is the dial with Roman numerals in black strokes on white, bordered by a sheet of gilded metal embossed with putti drinking wine, lying on a barrel, and surrounded by bunches of grapes and grape leaves. In the lower part there is a hand-painted orientalist scene on the wood. It has three bells inside. Like all Morez clocks, it repeats the chime at o'clock and strikes the half past the hour.
This type of clocks are known as Morez, name of a village in France, as they are the place of origin of their manufacture, although it should be noted that the production of these pieces also moved to Morbier and Switzerland. The realization of these watches began in the seventeenth century, living a second splendor in the mid-nineteenth century, when the advances of industrialization allowed technical improvements and greater speed in the manufacturing process. These are exceptional watches, since the striking mechanism is located on the right side and the movement on the left side.
