Painter of serene and poetic language, René Genis moved with his family to the French Girona in 1931. There he studied at the School of Fine Arts and the School of Decorative Arts. He exhibited at the Salon de la Jeune Peinture and participated in group exhibitions throughout France. His first solo exhibition took place at the Charpentier Gallery in Paris in 1956. For forty years, he exhibited regularly at the Salon de Comparisons in Maurice Boitel's group. He was also a member of the Society of French Engraving Painters. He was an important member of the Parisian Neofigurative School. His work can now be found in the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, the Yamagata Art Museum, etc. René Genis was influenced by the group of poetic realists with Christian Caillard, Jules Cavaillès, Raymond Legueult, Roger Limouse, Roland Oudot, André Planson, etc.
