In 1969 he presented his first solo exhibition at Lucio Amelio's gallery; already on that occasion Achille Bonito Oliva defined his work as "neo-illustrated", as he intended to point out an ethical link between art and history.His works are usually inhabited by heroes Robespierre, Mozart, Maradona, Danton, Masaniello, Virtue, Freedom or narrate great historical events or permanent vicissitudes of humanity, which the artist, however, frees from the logical-sequential narrative of the historical novel. inserting them in a representational context that recalls the associative modalities of the dream or the continuous and inorganisable flow of life. The unity lost at the narrative level is recovered at the structural level.

In fact, Tatafore's paintings have always exhibited a very light and rapid stroke, often incorporating a series of phrases, writings, absurdities and paradoxes, almost Duchampian puns] in an attempt to construct a representation that emerges simultaneously, without mediation, from the perceived reality.
