DESCRIPTION

Maza; Malaita Island - Solomon Islands, late 19th - early 20th century.
Wood, vegetable fibers and rattan.
It presents faults and restorations.
Provenance: Former Belgian private collection.
Measurements: 82 cm (height).
Mace in smooth wood with a beautiful light to dark brown patina. It has a diamond-shaped finish stretched with central and transverse edges in relief, covered in its lower half with braided vegetable fibers accompanied by a rattan link also braided to end in a triangular finish.
Solomon Islands culture reflects the extent of differentiation and diversity among the groups living within the Solomon Islands archipelago, which lies within Melanesia in the Pacific Ocean. The arts and crafts of the Solomon Islands encompass a wide range of woven objects, carved wood, stone and shell artifacts in styles specific to different provinces.
