BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Empire style Gueridon; France, 19th century.
Pine wood, walnut root veneer, gilt bronze mounts and "verde antico" marble.
Presents slight flaws
Measurements: 90 x 60 x 60 cm.

This table is an outstanding example of the French Empire style, with an intricate structure rich in ornamental details. The base is organized as a tripod, designed at a remarkable height that provides balance and presence. Each end of the tripod is molded, and from this base rises a central shaft, reinforcing the structure and emphasizing its verticality.

The table has three main legs, conceived as elegant columns, decorated with fine gilt bronze sconces in the lower and upper areas. These sconces add a touch of luxury, contrasting with the dark finish of the wood and highlighting the gleaming details. Above this structure of three main legs, there are three secondary legs, which add an extra level of sophistication. These upper legs are decorated at the bottom with finely sculpted scrolls, evoking the Greco-Roman influence of the Empire style. On the upper part, they have gilded bronze appliqués of vegetal character, with synthetic and simplified forms, following the decorative tendency of the period towards order and symmetry in natural motifs.

The waist of the table is ornamented with classically inspired palmettes, a very characteristic motif of the Empire style, which accentuates the elegance and richness of the design. The table top, in verde antico marble, is distinguished by its veining, bringing a luxurious and natural finish to the piece.

This table is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also an expression of style and prestige, reflecting the period's taste for the classic and refined. The combination of noble materials, such as marble and bronze, together with the complex and symmetrical structure, makes this table a symbol of the grandeur and sophistication of Empire furniture.
