BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

IRËNÉE ROCHAR (1906 - 1984).
"Pair of seagulls", ca. 1930.
Sculpture in patinated bronze.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 61 x 21 x 77 cm.

Born in Villefranche-sur-Saône, Irénée Rochard moved to Paris in the mid-1920s to immerse herself in the vibrant artistic world of the French capital. At the École des Beaux-Arts, under the tutelage of masters such as Serge Zelikson and René Dubois, Rochard developed her passion for sculpture, especially the representation of the animal kingdom. Throughout his life, Rochard devoted himself to depicting a wide variety of species, from majestic felines to birds in flight, always seeking to capture the beauty and strength of nature. His personal style, oscillating between a marked stylization and a more realistic naturalism, distinguishes him from his contemporaries. He regularly participated in the Salon des Artistes Français, where he won numerous prizes and distinctions. His works were acquired by important institutions such as the city councils of Paris and New York, which consolidated his reputation as one of the most outstanding sculptors of his generation.
