BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

DANIEL MONIC (1948 - 2015).
"Horse head", ca. 1990.
Patinated bronze sculpture.
Signed.
With foundry stamp: FOUNDRY L'HARZE.
Measurements: 73 x 90 x 33 cm.

Daniel Monic, pioneer and multifaceted French artist, began drawing and painting at a very young age. After joining the National Navy in Toulon, he found his first sources of inspiration in the sea and ships. In the late seventies, captivated by the gray atmosphere of the North Sea, he moved to Brussels, where he devoted himself fully to his art.

Monic lived for almost 30 years in the Triangle district of Anderlecht, where he also had his studio. Free and visionary, his work spanned multiple disciplines: painting, sculpture, video, drawing and computer graphics. His creations quickly caught the attention of collectors, who began to acquire his pieces throughout his career.

This imposing work made in lost wax was confirmed by the caster as a unique piece. The sculpture is inspired by the famous horse head on display at the Naples Museum, and stands out for its impressive realism and expressive strength.

May 2018 saw the unveiling of Le Défi, a monumental work that pits two horses against each other: one black in bronze and one white in marble. Originally designed to occupy a place of honor in Place Bara, it was acquired by the City of Anderlecht in 2002 and exhibited for several years at the Maison des Artistes.
