In this piece by Italian designer Piero Fornasetti the set of porcelain plates has been lithographed in white on gold with the representation of the figure of Eve, naked and with long hair cascading over her right shoulder. In one hand she holds the apple. At her feet, zigzags the tempting serpent. The drawing is of Renaissance inspiration and is part of the "Adam and Eve" series, which in Fornasetti's work knew a rich range of variations.
Piero Fornasetti was an outstanding Italian designer, sculptor, painter, interior decorator and engraver. Trained at the Brera Academy in Milan, he was the author of thousands of objects, lighting and furniture pieces with a main decorative theme: the face of the 19th century soprano Lina Cavalieri. He was also known for his expressive use of black and white, as well as the sun motif and other climatological elements. Today his son, Barnaba Fornasetti, continues to create designs for the firm that bears his surname.
