This work is part of the artist Clet Abraham's best-known project, which consists of intervening or "redesigning" the traffic signs of various cities. His intention is to ironically distort their restrictive meaning without impairing their legibility, as Abraham has stated in several interviews.
A French painter and sculptor active in Italy, Clet Abraham trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, and after exhibiting in several galleries in Brittany, he moved to Rome, where he will devote himself to restoring antique furniture. From there he organised exhibitions of his work in numerous galleries, not only in Rome but also in Paris and Brittany, as well as in various cultural institutions. In 2005 he moved to Florence, where he still lives and works today. His works enjoyed considerable success thanks to the interest of private collectors in Paris, Monte Carlo and New York, as well as numerous private institutions, such as the Banca Popolare dell'Etruria e del Lazio, the Istituto Tommaso Crudeli in Undine and the Castello di Poppi, which commissioned major projects from him. He has also participated in the three editions of the group exhibition Fuori Luogo, organised by the Chiessi e Fedi society at Palazzo Strozzi (2008), Teatro della Pergola (2009) and Palazzo Medici-Riccardi (2010). Although he is not a street artist as such, in recent years Cleet Abraham has been exploring street art as a form of artistic expression in the context of everyday life. He has made urban interventions, usually on road signs, in various cities in Italy, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Japan and the United States.
