BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

"Karma Pakshi".
Gilded bronze.
With signature on the back.
It presents marks of use and wear.
Measurements: 12 x 7,5 x 6 cm.

Karma Pakshi has been represented in this seated sculpture as a boddisattva seated in the posture of the lotus flower on a throne in the form of a synthetic lotus. His serene face conveys wisdom and spirituality. Karma Pakshi was the 2nd Gyalwa Karmapa. He was a child prodigy who by the age of ten had acquired a broad understanding of Dharma philosophy and meditation. His teacher, Pomdrakpa, had received the complete Kagyu transmission from Drogon Rechen, the spiritual heir of the 1st Karmapa. Pomdrakpa realized, through certain very clear visions, that the child in his care was the reincarnation of Dusum Khyenpa, as was also indicated in a letter given to Drogon Rechen. It is said that the young Karma Pakshi assimilated the deepest teachings effortlessly and that he only needed one reading of a text to become familiar with it, since he was already enlightened. Nevertheless, Pomdrakpa took care to formally transmit all the teachings through the traditional initiations, so that the flow of the lineage of initiation would not be interrupted. So it has been ever since: despite their innate clarity, the young Karmapas receive all transmissions formally.
