This piece, made in low-fired lead glazes, called "sancai", is based on a palette of three colors: yellow, green and ochre. It possibly represents one of the eight Taoist immortals, following models from the early Qing dynasty.
A dropper or "water dropper" is an element used in Chinese calligraphy by scholars to store water and let it fall, little by little, on an ink stone. Then, by rubbing an ink stick, the particles are released and give rise to the ink to be used for writing.
