Elephant bells; Cambodia, 12th-15th centuries.
Bronze.
They present faults and restorations.
Measurements: 20 x 23 cm (x2).
Pair of elephant bells made in bronze. Both have the same design of rounded format as a bell. The ornamentation of each of them is based on inscriptions and the belly decorated with two cornices. The handle is bordered at the base with lotus petals.
This type of objects were common in Asian cultures. In some senses from a ritual perspective, but mostly to warn people of the presence of an elephant. It is an object of traditional character and each bell provided a soft, sustained sound similar to a distinctive bell in each case.
