BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Architectural bas-relief; Thailand, Sri-Thep style, 9th-12th century.
Gray limestone.
Slight erosions caused by the passage of time.
Measurements: 38,5x 52 cm.
Architectural bas-relief of Thai origin, carved in gray limestone. The ornamentation consists of three pilasters composed of small alternating rectangular elements, with geometric and floral motifs. All the motifs follow a pattern based on strict geometry and a symmetrical composition that balances the design of the piece. The rear area of the work is unworked, indicating its ornamental function as part of a larger architectural ensemble.
Si Thep Historical Park is located in northeastern Thailand. Si Thep was a cultural and commercial capital during the Dvaravati period, from the 6th to the 10th century, before the arrival of the Kingdom of Siam in the 13th century. The city, whose ruins extend over 462 hectares, has developed its own artistic style reflecting the coexistence of Buddhism and Hinduism.
