Pair of riding boots. Hausa or Tiv, Nigeria, early 20th century.

This pair of boots were used for long rides on horseback or camel. They are decorated with green and ochre brown leather appliqués and leather embroidery. These intricately crafted boots covered the leg in the front up to above the thigh and in the back up to the calf.
