BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Set of 24 pieces following archaeological models, 20th century.

Glass, hand painted vitreous paste, terracotta.
Almost all with methacrylate base.
They show marks of use and wear, flaws and faults.
Measurements: 15 cm. height (the largest, without stand).

Lot consists of a collection of small jars and glass and ceramic vessels following models of Ancient Rome, in a variety of forms according to the use that was given: pisciform pieces in hand-painted ceramic with abstract motifs, jars with and without handles, spherical or flat body, exvasado lip to facilitate the dosage, periform containers in vitreous paste for gynecological ointments and perfumes of female toilet... In some pieces of glass, the outer surface has beautiful iridescence due to the long time that the glass has spent under land and in direct contact with the minerals of the earth itself.

The use of glass began to become widespread from the first century AD, after the discovery of the technique of blowing around 40 BC, in the eastern part of the Mediterranean coast. This technique was a great revolution, and immediately spread rapidly. Blown glass offered great advantages over other materials because it did not change the taste of the food it contained and was more impermeable than terracotta. In addition, the blowing technique allowed the manufacture of pieces of various shapes and sizes, and also a faster production. On the other hand, glass pieces were easier to clean, so it soon became the favorite material for domestic use.
