After initiating his formation in the private academy Víctor Esteban Ripaux, Castañeda enters the School of La Lonja of Barcelona in 1959. He alternated his studies with classes at the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, and finally completed his training at the Massana School. He made his individual debut in 1973, at the Leonart Gallery in Barcelona. Since then he has had personal exhibitions all over Spain, as well as in Washington, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Miami and New York. His awards include the Young Painting (1968, 1969 and 1970), the Fortuny Medal (1970) and the Isidro Nonell (1971). Also, in 1977 he made a "Sant Jordi" for the Diputación de Barcelona.
