BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Louis Philippe table clock; France, c. 1830.

Mercury gilt bronze and metal dial.
It has silk thread suspension.
Preserves pendulum and key.
Measurements: 55 x 47 x 17 cm.
Table clock with a rectangular base in the center of which is born a venera from which part of the ornamentation that leads to the two front legs, twisted inward. At a higher level, a plinth with stylized leaf profiles gives way to a smooth finish. In the upper zone, the clock case is placed under a sculptural group featuring two young women who embody a gallant scene, so typical of the period. The clock, embedded in a rocky mountain, and framed by a decoration in relief with vegetal motifs, is composed of a silver-plated dial, black Roman numerals and Breguet-type hands.
The bronze table clocks of the 19th century were key pieces in decoration and interior design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the time. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
