BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

MAITE DEFRUC, (Cartagena, 1947).
"Dancer", 1988.
Bronze sculpture on marble base.
Signed and dated.
Measurements: 45 x 36 x 29 cm (with base).
Maite Defruc discovers already in her youth her sculptural vocation through the knowledge of drawing. She began her training at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades in Murcia, and later studied various techniques in Madrid: stone carving with Pedro Panadero and casting in Nacho Estudio de Arte. In 1975 he created his own workshop in Pozo Estrecho, a town near Cartagena. There he personally carries out the whole process involved in his work, using traditional techniques from the history of sculpture such as lost wax casting. Later she traveled to Paris to study small sculpture focused on jewelry, and currently her work ranges from these small pieces to monumental works such as the one dedicated to the Spanish Constitution, the "Broken Christ" for the Monastery of Verdun (France), the "Monument to the Radio Amateur" in Cartagena, the "Blood Donors" in Murcia, the "V Centenary of La Palma" in Cartagena, etc.. Maite Defruc is a meticulous sculptor, who knows how to get the most out of bronze, investigating volumes and textures to obtain strong and powerful but at the same time delicate forms. In 1972 she held her first individual exhibition at the Tais Gallery in Lorca, where she has since shown her work on more occasions. In 1981 he held a personal exhibition in Madrid, at the Centro Cultural de la Villa, and in 1985 he made the international leap with another solo exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Since then he has continued to show his work both in various Spanish cities and in the French capital, and in 1991 he took part in the Salon d'Automne in Paris. He has also exhibited his work in Dubai and Munich, and is currently represented in various public and private collections, both national and foreign.
