Marcello Lucarelli began to make his first drawings on the back of the theatrical posters that he found in his father's barbershop. His grandfather encouraged him to enroll in Fabio Casanova's craft school. There he began his introduction to the world of art. He was a student of Giuseppe Lunardi and Alberto Caligiani. For Lucarelli, his stay in Florence was one of the most important stages of his artistic and cultural formation. He stayed with Frosini, Jorio Vivarelli and the painter Silvio Loffredo at Villa Favard, where the school had made some attic rooms available to non-local students. Lucarelli also continued to work, first in the workshop of the Florentine sculptor Cesare Fiumi. Later, he worked with Primo Conti, doing small works in the workshop. In 1946, he enrolled in a teaching school to follow his vocation as a teacher. That same year, Lucarelli became Pietro Bugiani's assistant at the art school in Pistoia and a teacher at the scientific institute. However, it would be the Venice Biennale of 1948, where he began his foray into abstraction. The lesson of Kandinsky was significant in this regard, especially his Murnau landscapes. In 1950, Marcello Lucarelli accepted a position as a drawing teacher in Sardinia, first in Ales and then in Cagliari. Despite his teaching commitment, it was a dynamic and productive period for his painting. His perception managed to establish an emotional bond with the nature of those places, embracing enthusiasm and new stimuli. In 1952, Lucarelli participated in the IV Regional Art Exhibition in Cagliari and, subsequently, he regularly took part in numerous exhibitions. In 1954 he held his first solo exhibition in Pistoia, presented by Giulio Innocenti. Lucarelli returned to Pistoia in 1960, where he taught at the technical institute. He resumed contact with his friends, with whom he had always remained in touch. He also continued to paint the landscapes of Sardinia along with corners of the Tuscan countryside. Some sophisticated notes can be interpreted in the blues, oranges, dark greens and intense yellows, similar to Cézanne, but also to the Pont-Aven School when the vivid colors do not follow natural references.
