Joan de Palau lived for a time in Aranjuez, during his youth. There he met Santiago Rusiñol, from whom he received his first advice and lessons. In 1944 he participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid, and two years later he made his individual debut at the Syra Galleries in Barcelona. Since then he held several exhibitions both in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain, such as the one organized by the Braulio Gallery in Castellón in 1986. Established in Bañolas, his work is devoted to the lake landscape of its surroundings, as well as in the urban environment itself, particularly the picturesque Plaza Mayor. Palau interprets these motifs with an impressionistic language that blurs the contours of objects in light-filled atmospheres. During his life he combined painting with teaching, founding a School of Fine Arts in Bañolas where Josep Cruañas, Lluís Roura and Benet Costa, among many others, were trained. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of L'Estany, the region to which his adopted town belongs. Joan de Palau is represented in various national and international art galleries.
