BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
JUAN GONZÁLEZ ALACREU, (Burriana, Castellón, 1937)
"Dressing the fallera".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
With label of Segrelles Gallery.
Measurements: 100 x 73 cm, 133 x 106 cm (frame).
Formed in the School of Arts and Trades of Castellón and in the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos of Valencia thanks to a scholarship granted by the Deputation of Castellón. Once he finished his studies, he began to illustrate books and magazines, being a collaboration of great relevance the one he did in "Los Cuentos valencianos" by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez. Alacreu is considered as the current representative of the Valencian woman, always represented with her lace, sequins and colored silks. In his oil paintings he revives an almost extinct world, where the essence of the Mediterranean is imposed by the light and the luminism infected by Sorolla. Completing the open and colorful compositions, he shows people who work, contemplative characters, who gather or work. His works are the result of his emotional ties with the sea, nature and the customs of his land. His inspiration comes from reality and everyday work, transforming his visions into works somewhere between realism and impressionism bathed in the Levantine light.
