The artistic language of José Freixanes moves between abstraction and figuration, and is marked by a strong primitivist character. Freixanes studied Fine Arts in Bilbao and at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where he furthered his studies thanks to a scholarship from the Diputación Provincial de Pontevedra. He is linked to the Atlántica movement, and is part of the Juana Mordó Gallery; currently, in addition to his artistic career, he works at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Granada as a professor. His work has been exhibited in Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, Madrid, Vigo, Santander, Ibiza, Damascus (Syria), Casablanca (Morocco), etc.; and it is kept in private collections as well as in some important institutions (MEAC Collection, Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, Chase Manhattan Bank Collection in New York, U.N.E.D. Collection (Madrid), Caja Madrid Collection, etc.).
