Antonio Lazo, began his studies at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Cristóbal Rojas during the sixties. His training was expanded with several postgraduate studies, both at that institution and at the Pedagogical Institute of Caracas, which led him to become a teacher specializing in Experimental Plastic Arts. Throughout his academic career, he taught color, drawing, painting and free workshops, among other areas of artistic exploration.
Since the mid-eighties, Lazo has presented several solo exhibitions, among which stand out: Antonio Lazo. Paintings at Sala Mendoza (1986), Drawings by Antonio Lazo at Sotavento Gallery (1988), Sentimiento, convicción y vivencias at Galería de Arte Nacional de Caracas (1988), LAZO at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas Sofía Imber (1995), Horizontes, límites de una idea at Sala Mendoza (1997), Tiempo Real at La Caja - Galería de Arte Contemporáneo del Centro Cultural Chacao (2011, Venezuela), El Tiempo at Galería L&B (Barcelona, 2016), and Alusiones at the same gallery in 2018. He has also taken his work to spaces such as Casa de América in Madrid.
Since the late 1980s, Lazo has been based in France, where he actively collaborates with Venezuelan artists of different generations through the Contemporary Art Workshop, an initiative he has been directing together with artist Zeinab Bulhossem for more than eight years.
He has been part of numerous group exhibitions in countries such as Argentina, Spain, France, Mexico, Cuba and Venezuela. His work is part of important collections, including the Banco Mercantil in Caracas, the Cisneros Collection, the Polar Foundation, the GAN, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas Sofía Imber (MACCSI), the MAO, the MBA Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey in Mexico, among others.
