Scott Richter attended Parsons School of Design in the early 1960s to study industrial design. The Museum of Modern Art was a few blocks away and thus began his flirtation with the art world. A master technician uncomfortable with his comfort zone, his work often blends representation and abstraction, refinement and chaos. Although his career has been marked by distinct chapters, his work is infused with raw emotionality, dark subtext and a dash of humor. Scott's work has been exhibited at PS1, Zabriski Gallery, Curt Marcus Gallery and Elizabeth Harris Gallery in New York. He was an assistant professor at SUNY Purchase for seven years and an adjunct professor at Cooper Union for over 31 years.
