Of humble origin and being the eldest of nine siblings, since he was a child he showed a remarkable talent for drawing and painting. At the age of 13, his parents, despite the economic sacrifice involved, decided to send him to develop his artistic skills under the guidance of sculptor Germán Compaña and painter Teodomiro Robayna, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Although he moved to the island's capital, he did not lose contact with his hometown, where at the age of 16 he received a diploma of merit for a marine he presented. At the age of 18, in 1923, he emigrated to Cuba, where he worked as an advertising artist and married Pilar Ramón Mesa, who died in 1980. In 1932, both returned from Havana to Guía de Isora, and in 1942 they took up residence in Santa Cruz.

Martín González participated in numerous exhibitions, among them those of the Casino of La Orotava (1940), the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1945), the Gabinete Literario of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1947), the Sala Dardo of Madrid (1952) and the Casino of Tenerife (1957). In 1946 he received the prize at the Regional Biennial of Fine Arts of the Gabinete Literario de Las Palmas.
