BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

FRANCESC FÀBREGAS i PUJADAS (Barcelona, 1898-Buenos Aires, 1992).
"Glinca", ca. 1930.
Oil on tapestry canvas.
Signed and titled.
Measurements: 111 x 87 cm.

This oil painting is inspired by the works of the Russian composer Mikhail Glinka, considered the father of Russian musical nationalism.

He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts and Fine Arts ("Llotja"), at the School of Drawing of the Ateneo Obrero and at the Academy "Les Arts" of Barcelona. He integrated and participated actively in numerous circles of the artistic avant-garde in Barcelona, among them Grupo Forma, Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, Real Círculo Artístico and FAD (Fomento de las Artes Decorativas). He was a member of Publi-Club; president of the Sindicato de Dibujantes Profesionales and of the Asociación de Cartelistas and participant in the Seminario de Publicidad (1935). He traveled for the first time to Argentina in 1927, where he lived and worked as a poster artist and illustrator in Buenos Aires until his return to Barcelona in 1932. During the Civil War he actively participated in favor of the Republican cause in the Comissariat de Propaganda de la Generalitat de Catalunya as Head of the Artistic Department and poster designer. At the end of the war in 1939 he had to go into exile in France, residing and working as an easel painter and lithographer in Paris for nine months, until he returned to Argentina, where he settled and worked until his death in 1992. His extensive artistic work includes paintings, posters (receiving more than 30 awards), lithographs and drawings. He also stood out as a sculptor, photographer, stained glass artist, decorator, muralist, illustrator, publicist, editor and ceramist. He also designed and supervised several works of residential, commercial and advertising architecture. He is represented in various public and private collections in Argentina and different countries in America and Europe.
