BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

MITSUO MIURA (Iwate, Japan, 1946).
Untitled, 1990.
Oil on canvas (consisting of four canvases).
Signed and dated on the back.
Size: 65 x 65 cm (each).
Subtle bubbles on monochrome surfaces begin to proliferate in Miura's work from the eighties onwards, inaugurating a new pictorial stage for this artist whose Japanese origin has a notable influence on his aesthetic, characterised by delicacy and extreme serenity. His minimalism thus combines two currents (European avant-garde and Japanese tradition) resulting in a singular, conceptual and refined work.
A sculptor, painter and experimental artist trained at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and based in Madrid since 1966, Mitsuo Miura furthered his studies at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts for three years. His work stems from informalism and the influence of Pollock, and leads to experiences close to minimalism, conceptual art and land-art, claiming his oriental roots in the fusion with nature, the technical refinement of the material and the agile stroke. When he discovered the Genoveses beach in Almería in 1978, he began a series of photographic series focusing on both landscape and light. In the mid 80's and early 90's he took a turn towards a work centred on nature, with soft tones, abstract masses and monochromatic geometries, very much in line with Japanese aesthetics and its delicacy. Throughout his career, Mitsuo Miura has held solo exhibitions all over Spain and also in Japan, with special mention of those held at the Helga de Alvear gallery in Madrid in 1995 and at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2005. He is currently represented in this museum and also in the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Municipal Museum in Madrid, the Artium in Vitoria, the Juan March Foundation, the Provincial Councils of Alicante and Granada, the Telefónica collection, the MACUF in A Coruña, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Caja de Burgos, Caja de Ahorros de Ávila and La Caixa collections, the National Library in Madrid, the Bank of Spain and the Pamplona City Council.
