Untitled.

Marcelino de Unceta abandoned the military career to dedicate himself to painting. He entered the School of Fine Arts of San Luis de Zaragoza. Later he continued his studies at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he was a disciple of the Madrazo and Carlos Luis Ribera. He participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts as a history painter, and in 1864 the State acquired one of his works, "A Moroccan carrying a horse". He was also an illustrator, and among his works stand out the lithographs he made for the "Historia de la villa y corte de Madrid", by Amador y Rada, published for the first time in 1860. In 1866 he returned to Zaragoza, where he carried out important commissions such as those for the Basilica del Pilar and the municipal theater. Later he returned to Madrid, where he painted a portrait of Alfonso XII and continued to participate in the National Exhibitions. He is represented in the Prado Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts of Zaragoza and the Central University of Barcelona.
