JOSEP OLIVET LEGARES (Olot, 1887 - Barcelona, 1956)

Josep Olivet Legares was formed in Barcelona, in the Galí Academy, between 1911 and 1912. Later he completed his studies in Rome and, in Madrid, with López Mezquita. He took part in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1915, and exhibited individually at the Faianç Català the following year. Throughout his career he participated in group exhibitions (Sala Vayreda, Barcelona, in 1930) and held several personal exhibitions, such as those held in the galleries Barcino (1936) and La Pinacoteca (1941), among others. In 1959, the Pinacoteca gallery in Barcelona dedicated a tribute exhibition to him. His work, centered on landscape, is a continuation of the Olot school, with a greater chromatic richness and characterized by a subtle atmospheric transparency. Olivet Legares captured in his landscapes a nostalgic, romantic and deeply lyrical spirituality. Olivet Legares is currently represented in the Museum of Modern Art of Olot, as well as in various private collections.
