Nineteenth-century painting representing a boy of six or seven years old with a book under his arm and frightened expression. He keeps his small body next to a wall as if he was afraid to move forward because of the intuition that something unpromising could be waiting for him around the corner. The painting is resolved with a veristic language and naturalistic will.
