A lady of the high society, stuffed in a long silk dress that stylizes her waist and crests her hips, according to the fashion of the end of the nineteenth century, looks towards the horizon (or towards some event that is out of frame) using binoculars. We do not know where she is looking, because the painter deprives us of such information by reserving for us the contemplation of the elegant lady in her garden, her figure cut out against a sky slightly iridescent by the sunset.
