Louis Èmile Villa, an outstanding painter of the XIXth century, distinguished himself by his mastery in the representation of beautiful women wrapped in the elegance of the XVIIIth century, inside luxurious scenes of the epoch. Influenced by the nostalgic fervor that characterized the second half of the 19th century, Villa trained under the tutelage of Charles Gleyre and Auguste Glaize. In this particular painting, a model adorns an oriental-style dress, exquisitely ornamented with lace and silks, highlighting the artist's skill in recreating ethereal fabrics and pure colors. The young woman gracefully and elegantly holds something in one hand, while with the other she touches a heron, a gesture that emphasizes the purity of her pastime and the beauty of her personality.
