Charles-Clément Calderón was a painter specialized in scenes of Venice and its canals. This trend was very common in European painters of the XIX century, who traveled to Venice to continue studying and to improve their formation and were in love with the city.

Charles-Clement Calderon was enthusiastic about this perspective of Venice, which he repeated in other works, timidly modifying the light, the position of the gondola and the characters. This type of paintings, almost like photographs taken seconds apart, are the most representative and valued of his professional career.

The French academic painter Charles Clement Calderon (1870-1906) was an assistant and pupil of the renowned painter Alexander Cabanel. Calderon became a regular participant in the exhibitions of the Paris Salon des Arts where he exhibited most of his works. His paintings of Venice at L'Exposition Colonial were highly praised, shortly before his early death in 1906. The artist, who traveled frequently, visited countries and cities in southern Europe, especially Venice. It is known that on these trips he worked on a large number of patterns, but few of them have survived to the present day.
