It shows wear, lack of polychrome, wood and the back shows treated damage caused by xylophagous.
Measurements: 36,5 x 24,5 cm.
The format of this work, in addition to its iconography, shows that it is a work belonging to a larger altarpiece. It was probably destined to the predella area or even to the ornamentation of the intercalaries, where it would be accompanied by other saints dressed with their attributes and with the palm of martyrdom as in this work. As for the representation, the axe indicates that it is St. Jude Thaddeus, in the other hand he carries the palm of martyrdom. Regarding the aesthetics, it is worth mentioning that the softening of the face and the monumentality of the bust show the influence of the Renaissance style; in fact, the background itself, in whose lower area several details can be seen, does not invite us to intuit a spatial sensation typical of the Italian influence.
In the Aragonese school of the late fifteenth century-early sixteenth century, the Italian influence arrives first in its primitive form, with the works of the Quattrocento, and soon gives way to contemporary mannerist influences. This century saw the transition between the Flemish-influenced language and the new Italianate style, which left behind the rich and detailed sense of the Hispano-Flemish language. However, this arrival of new styles will not be uniform throughout Spain; on the Mediterranean coast these influences will arrive earlier thanks to the link between the crown of Aragon and Italy. On the other hand, in Castile and the interior of the Peninsula, the Flemish and late Gothic influences survived, largely driven by the Catholic Monarchs and by a clientele still attached to the old forms.
