Scene starring a religious man sitting in an ornate armchair. The protagonist has been portrayed slightly turned in three quarters in such a way that the totality of his body is appreciated. The protagonist looks directly at the viewer and adopts a reflective gesture that, together with the book he holds in his hand, indicates a moment of personal meditation that has been captured and enhanced by the artist's view.
It is worth noting that the theme acquires great relevance because during the eighteenth century the Church was going through a crisis of faith, so that the institution resorted to the arts as an ally in the transmission of the values of the church in such a way that proliferated this type of images where the religious were extolled or shown from a more intimate point of view. Although in this case it is also preserved an image full of details that testify the opulence of religious life, aesthetics that undoubtedly comes from the baroque period. This is the period in which this type of religious representations were canonized.
