BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOSE MARÍA YTURRALDE, (Cuenca, 1942).
"Impossible figure".
Silkscreen on paper, copy 73/100.
Signed and justified by hand.
Measurements: 63 x 47,50 cm.
His works belonging to the period from 1968 to 1972 correspond to what he called "Serial Structures", are part of a spatial problem in which various figures and projection systems are studied. With his figures he plastically confronts the custom of perception with the analysis of its structure. They are three-dimensional forms formed from two-dimensional data capable of deceiving the eye of the spectator, who seeks a logical analysis and configures meanings finally opting for the confusion transmitted due to the perception of confusing stimuli. In short, his work is based on the search for a direct action on optical sensitivity.
Graduate and Doctor in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. In 1968 he receives a scholarship from the Calculus Center of the University of Madrid. He makes his first works with computer. Influenced by the Op Art introduced by Eusebio Sempere (1923-1985) in the Spanish panorama, by the work of Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), promoter of kinetic art; the language of Mark Rothko (1903-1970); as well as by the neoclassical aesthetic theories of the thinker Edmund Burke, Yturralde's work took a direction of study of the forms and projective systems.
The works of the artist from Cuenca are represented in various museums and collections, such as the Museo de Arte Abstracto de Cuenca, Brooklin Museum in New York, Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Dep. Art and Sciences, The Asahí Shimbun, Tokyo. P.R. Norman Collection, New Orleans. USA or at the Martinez Guerricabeitia Foundation. University of Valencia.
In 2020 he was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts.
