Pair of corbels. Spain, 17th century.
Carved and gilded wood. Later marble tops.

This pair of corbels, which may have been originally an ornament of a baroque altarpiece, has been made in carved wood. Under the angular section of the corbel there are vegetal forms of scrolls and acanthus deployed in an orderly manner, following an order more typical of the Renaissance than of the Baroque. The marble tops are later additions.
