BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Chest of drawers; France, Regency, c. 1720.
Pine wood, violetwood veneer, gilt bronze and marble top.
Presents consolidated board and loss of one of the fittings.
Measurements: 82,5 x 130 x 68 cm.
French Regency style chest of drawers, the transition language between the last baroque of Louis XIV and the rococo Louis XV. Veneered in violet wood, with rich applied gilded bronzes and marble top with an expressive veining. It presents a crossbow arch front, a form still rooted in the Louis XIV style, in which this scheme was widely used. However, this front now translates into a bulging in elevation that links directly with the rococo, which will seek sinuous forms and rounded volumes. Another feature that announces the new language are the chamfered corners, with a sinuous cutout that is close to the cabriole leg typical of French rococo, whose shape is further defined by the bronze applications.

COMMENTS

It presents consolidated board and loss of one of the ironworks.
