In 1937, Robert Dumas was watching the ships while walking along the coast of Normandy. The anchor chains that held them caught his attention and inspired the shape of the iconic Chaine d'ancre motif. This exemplifies the "intelligence of the eye" and the harmonious balance between practicality and beauty that is quintessential to the Hermès philosophy.
It was in 1938 that the Maison ventured into uncharted waters and created the first silver Chaine d'ancre bracelet. Since then, this motif has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration, undergoing a plethora of interpretations, using various materials and shapes, all while retaining its essence.
Robert Dumas designed the Chaine d'ancre more than 80 years ago. Its links, reflecting the company's chain-making know-how, continue to inspire Pierre Hardy in his creations.
