Bronze sculpture em bulto redondo that represents a masculine figure that sustains a hammer between his hands and is dressed with work apron. The aesthetics presents a great influence of costumbrismo. The piece represents an allegory of Industry, a recurring theme in 19th century art, especially during the Industrial Revolution.
The Vereinigte Werkstätten von Reps & Trinte Kunstanstalt, Vereinigte Werkstätten von Gebrüder Schultz, Berlin, Joh. Val. Vanni, Frankfurt a. M., A. Trinte, Neustadt Magdeburg, Carl Koch, Magdeburg, Reps & Trinte for short, were a German manufacture of art objects that existed in Magdeburg from 1889 until about the late 1920s.
The "Kunstanstalt" was founded by the merchant Carl Reps and the sculptor A. Trinte in Neustadt-Magdeburg; the Museum of European Ceramic Art assumes the year of foundation to be 1889. The company was engaged in the "production of antique and modern sculptures in marble, ivory, plaster and clay", "Parisian and Viennese decorative painting, as well as bronze imitations on clay or hardened plaster". Other objects were polished wooden columns, consoles, terracotta figures and molded marble columns. The designs were by sculptors such as Paul Aichele, the brothers Friedrich (Fritz) and Hans von Heider, Etha Richter, Bläsche and Ludwig Eisenberger. As a result of changing tastes after World War I and the Great Depression, the demand for Kunstanstalt works dropped drastically and the company had to close.
