ATHOS RENZO BRIOSCHI (Italy, 1910-2000).
"Allegory of industry", 1935.
Patinated bronze.

Measurements: 85 x 35 x 21 cm.
Bronze sculpture in rounded bulk made around 1935 by the painter and sculptor Athos Renzo Brioshi, whose aesthetics presents a great influence of the style of the American artists of the Art Deco current. The piece represents an allegory of Industry, a recurring theme in 19th century art, especially during the Industrial Revolution. The work shows a female figure of majestic bearing, who personifies Industry, accompanied by a young worker, symbol of human effort and labor essential for industrial development.
The female figure stands with an imposing presence, reflecting the confidence and optimism that characterized the era. She wears classical clothes, richly draped and flowing. In her right hand, she holds a torch, a universal symbol of progress, knowledge and enlightenment, guiding the way to the industrial future.
The young worker, located to her left, represents the labor force that drives the industrial machinery. His figure, modeled with realism and detail, shows an athletic and muscular body, the fruit of physical labor. His hand rests on a hammer, an emblematic tool of industry and construction, symbolizing the human capacity to transform raw materials.
The composition of the sculpture is dynamic and balanced, with the two figures arranged in a visual and symbolic dialogue. The base, richly decorated with vegetal elements and tools, reinforces the idea of Industry as a force that generates wealth and progress.
As for the style, there is a clear influence of neoclassicism, with an idealization of the human figure and a reminiscence of classical sculpture. However, there are also realistic elements, especially in the representation of the young worker.
