BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish school, XIX century.
"Virgin of Carmen.
Carved and polychrome wood.
Halo in gilded metal.
It presents dirt and wear, missing fingers and lack of polychrome.
Measurements: 67 x 28 x 24 cm.
Sculptural group representing the Virgin holding the Child with the left arm, presenting him to the spectator, while with the right arm she should, according to the gesture, hold the scapulars that are the usual attribute of the Virgin in her Carmelite invocation. Jesus also wears the scapulars hanging on his chest. Jesus has been represented of young age but with serene features, which he shares with his mother. The carving is stylistically ascribed to nineteenth-century neoclassicism. The tunic is decorated with finely carved floral patterns and the mantle is swirled in dynamic folds.
