BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Circle of DOMENICO GUIDI (Carrara, 1625- Rome, 1701), 18th century.
"Christ crucified".
Mercury gilded bronze.
Measurements: 12 x 12 cm.
For its stylistic characteristics and the dating of the piece, this Crucified Christ may have been made by a Baroque sculptor of the circle of Domenico Guidi. The image represents Christ with a suffering anatomy and with his head resting on one of his shoulders, already dead, with closed eyelids and half-open lips. The tilted head draws a spiral with respect to the legs bent to the opposite side, so that the body is harmonious in anatomy and proportions. There is a restrained dramatism in the treatment of the traces of suffering, especially in the chest with the marked ribs, the thinness that allows glimpses of muscles and tendons, as if the tension of pain still palpitates in the inert body. The purity cloth is gathered at the side, favoring a play of naturalistic drapery.
