DESCRIPTION

ROBERTO CATALÀ (Cullera, present).
"Orfosis" 2024.
Rendered 3D with glass armor.
Measurements: 70 x 50 cm.

Roberto Català is an artist graduated in Fine Arts at Universitat Politècnica de València. He has studied Master in Artistic Productions and Research at Universitat Politècnica de València UPV. PhD Program in Art: Production and Research at Universitat Politècnica de València UPV.

"Orphosis" is part of an investigation by the artist in which he explores the movement and liquidity inherent in human life, representing how our existences are in constant flux. Through a rendering, showing a different perspective of a 3D model, the work visualizes the immediacy and continuous change that define our perception of self and environment. This 2D rendering, based on a 3D scanned model, captures the technological "mistake" of attempting to duplicate living reality, symbolizing the algorithmic interpretations of life through an electronic eye.

In the artist's words, "The chosen approach reflects my artistic vision of questioning the intersection between the physical and the technological, using the 'mistake' as a means to explore new realities. This work seeks to challenge traditional ways of representing the human body and movement, integrating elements of sculpture, painting, drawing and photography. The technology of ray rendering becomes a means to deconstruct traditional perception, highlighting how errors in detection can generate new artistic perspectives, aligning with the fluidity and dynamism of human emotions. The work invites a reflection on how speed and movement affect our ability to integrate emotions and experiences, a phenomenon especially relevant in contemporary life marked by technological overexposure. By presenting the concept of error and perception, it is intended to evoke an introspection on the reliability of our perceptions and the impact of technology on our lives. In addition, the installation of these images in innovative formats, such as suspended Japanese paper or tableau-like panels, generates a space for reflection that points to the tension between the traditional and the futuristic, opening a dialogue on the evolution of human representation. This installation, as a whole, not only offers an aesthetic vision, but also promotes critique and discussion about our interaction with the digital world."
