Painter and sculptor of self-taught formation, brother of the sculptor Joaquín Alcalde, Lucas moved with his family to Ortuella (Vizcaya) when he was only two years old, and he will remain all his life linked to the mining basin, where he will also develop most of his exhibitions. He made his individual debut in 1980, and in 1983 he was awarded first prize in the Ortuella Popular Painting Contest. Since then he has held numerous exhibitions, many of them with the Association of Basque Watercolorists, and has been distinguished with the first prize Painter of the Mining Area (1986), the Gold Medal of the City of Barakaldo (2007) and, outside Spain, with the International Award for Artistic Trajectory Torre Archiff (Italy, 1998). At individual level he has exhibited his work in numerous cities of the Basque Country. He is currently represented in the Maritime Museum of Bilbao, the Miguel de Barandiarán Foundation in Ataun, the Dolores Ibarruri Foundation in Madrid and the La Caixa Foundation, among others.
